The Japanese Award for Most Innovative Development Project is a competitive grant program that falls under the Global Development Awards Competition. This is an initiative managed by GDN and is funded through the Policy and Human Resources Development Fund (PHRD) trust fund, which is under the purview of the World Bank.
Japanese Award For Most Innovative Development Project
The Ministry of Finance, Government of Japan provides significant support to the program. Non-profit NGOs and CSOs are invited to submit their project proposals to receive grants for innovative approaches that can improve service delivery and impact marginalized and disadvantaged communities in developing countries.
The projects should be at the implementation stage or close to it, and have a high potential for wide-scale scaling up. The World Bank recognizes such countries as low- and middle-income countries.
Benefits
- The winning projects in this competition will be awarded grants of US$120,000 in total. The two first-place winners will each receive a grant of US$50,000 while the project that comes in second will receive a grant of US$20,000.
- In addition to the monetary grants, the awardees will be paired with a Technical Advisor, who will provide assistance and support throughout the implementation of their grant.
Eligibility Criteria
- The MIDP competition is open to countries that are classified by the World Bank as low-income or middle-income countries.
- The project must be managed by a registered non-profit NGO or CSO, with its headquarters located in one of the eligible countries.
- To be considered eligible, projects must have commenced their implementation on or before June 1, 2023.
- Applicants from previous years, except for winners, are allowed to re-apply, but they must update their application to include new aspects of the project.
- Previous winners of the MIDP are not eligible to apply again.
