Irish Tech Challenge South Africa 2024 (Up to €10,000 in Funding)

The Irish Embassy in South Africa, in collaboration with Wits University’s Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct, the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA), the Department of Science & Innovation (DSI), and Dogpatch Labs Ireland is extending an invitation to South African tech startups to participate in the Irish Tech Challenge South Africa 2024.

The Irish Tech Challenge is designed to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship by fostering connections between the South African and Irish tech communities. This prestigious event aims to identify and support a group of high-potential, impact-driven South African tech startups each year. Successful applicants will be provided with a tailored mentoring and acceleration program within the Irish tech ecosystem.

Benefits

The Irish Tech Challenge Award will recognize seven outstanding Tech Investors, offering them the following benefits:

  • Financial support: Each selected investor will receive up to €10,000 in funding to bolster their ventures.
  • Networking opportunities: A sponsored trip to Ireland awaits the winners, where they will engage in a curated business networking program, connecting with the country’s top business leaders.
  • Access to the Irish tech ecosystem: Winners will gain access to the thriving Irish tech community, potentially unlocking further funding opportunities.
  • Acceleration assistance: In collaboration with Dogpatch Labs in Ireland, winners will receive guidance to develop and implement their global scaling strategies.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for the Irish Tech Challenge, ventures must meet the following criteria:

  • Revenue Status: Both post-revenue and pre-revenue companies are welcome to apply, provided they have a developed intellectual property (IP) or prototype. The venture must demonstrate commercial potential.
  • Sector Diversity: Participants from all technology sectors are encouraged to apply. However, the challenge particularly seeks ventures in Clean/Green Tech, Circular Economies, Med/Health/Biotech, Ed-Tech, and WASH (Water, Sanitation, Hygiene).
  • Focus on Sustainability: Applicants should aim to address one or more of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Founder Involvement: At least one founder or CEO must be fully committed to the venture. Women-led or youth-led businesses are highly encouraged to participate.
  • Ownership and Partnership: The venture must be at least 51% owned by a South African and/or have a partnership with an Irish national.
  • Headquarters Location: Companies must be headquartered in either South Africa or Ireland.
