The Generation Connect Young Leadership Programme (GCYLP) is a dynamic initiative by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in collaboration with Huawei. Its mission is to engage, empower, and inspire young digital visionaries and changemakers.

ITU Generation Connect Young Leadership Programme

Each year, thirty young individuals will have the special opportunity to receive guardianship, training, and financial support to bring their digital development programme to completion in their communities worldwide.

International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in collaboration with Huawei, is offering mentorship, training, and financial assistance to thirty young fellows annually, empowering them to implement digital development projects in their various communities globally. This program provides young leaders with the exclusive chance to bring their novel digital development concepts to life or enhance the reach of their current programme.

Benefits

  • Curated Programming: Throughout the year, fellows will participate in virtual leadership training activities conducted by ITU and Huawei. Additionally, they will attend an in-person global training week (location to be determined) to enhance their capacity as digital changemakers.
  • Funding: Each of the 30 selected fellows will receive an initial grant of USD 5,000 to kickstart the implementation of their proposed digital development projects. The most impactful projects will receive an additional USD 5,000 grant for scaling up.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants must be between 18-28 years old by the application deadline of Saturday, March 23, 2024.
  • Interest in spearheading and executing a digital development initiative is essential.
  • Enrollment in or recent graduation from a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program at a tertiary education institution is required.
  • Proficiency in English is necessary as it is the primary language of the program, ensuring all fellows can fully engage in the planned training, networking, and events.
