This programme provides aspiring photographers from Europe, the Middle East, and Africa with an exceptional chance to engage with prominent industry professionals and obtain professional portfolio assessments.

Benefits

  • Mentorships: Editors from leading media agencies such as AFP, EPA, Getty Images, and Reuters will select up to 100 applicants to receive personalized mentorships.
  • Exclusive Workshop: A select group of 25 students will have the chance to participate in a transformative 4-day workshop in Girona, Spain, which promises to shape their careers.
  • Visa pour l’Image: Following the workshop, students will have the chance to attend Visa pour l’Image, the renowned international festival of photojournalism in Perpignan, France.
  • Prestigious prizes: Three students will be granted €2k and provided with Canon equipment to support the creation of a new project.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicant must be at least 18 years old by March 7, 2024
  • Must be living in EMEA
  • Must have participated in an educational program or internship with an agency or magazine during the academic year 2023-2024, or receive a nomination/endorsement from a professional in the photography industry.

Selection Criteria

  • Participants are chosen by a group of experts from Canon and prominent media agencies such as AFP, EPA, Getty Images, and Reuters.
  • Entries will be evaluated based on storytelling ability, authenticity, storyline, biography, and the overall excellence of the portfolio and project proposal.

How to apply

  • To be eligible, individuals must be at least 18 years old by March 7, 2024, and must be either a student, or intern or have completed their course during the 2023-24 academic year.
  • There are a limited number of spots available for individuals nominated by the industry, regardless of their current level of education.
  • While the program is open to participants from Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, they must have a good command of the English language.
  • Applicants are required to complete the form and submit both an existing portfolio and a proposal for a new project (maximum of one page in length). Portfolios should include up to two recent stories with a maximum of 20 images each, along with a description, image captions, and a personal biography.
