iPhone 15 Camera Rumors Are Disappointing

iPhone 15 camera rumors are disappointing as it seems that fans and enthusiasts will not be getting the camera upgrade that they were expecting. They will instead be getting 48MP, but not that 48MP if you know what I mean.

iPhone 15 Camera Rumors

We have been for quite some time now expecting the iPhone 15 to include two huge upgrades over the iPhone 14, and most specifically a dynamic island as well as the same 48MP main camera s it is on the iPhone 14 Pro. Well, while the former on the list looks very much set to happen, the latter on the other hand might not.

That’s however according to Chat Station, a reputable leaker Digital, who, on Weibo, a Chinese site  (via Phone Arena), has now claimed that while the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max will apparently keep the 48MP camera of their predecessors, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus on the other hand will get a different 48MP camera.

Different how, you may be wondering? Digital Chat Station states that it will be a 48MP camera with a 1/1.5-inch sensor, which is quite smaller than the 1/1.28-inch sensor that is used by the 48MP camera present on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

That smaller sensor size here simply means that it will not be able to capture as much light, and therefore probably will not perform just as well in low-light conditions. And beyond that, a larger sensor size on the other hand can benefit depth of field as well as dynamic range, and can even improve the overall image quality although in the latter case, the size of the sensor is just one of a couple of factors at play.

What It Means For the Rumor to Be Correct

So if it is that digital chat station is correct, it means that the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus may be having less-capable main cameras than the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max on the other hand.

We would however be taking this with a pinch of salt, but this very leak does not necessarily conflict with rumors prior to this, which tended to simply state that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus would be having a 48MP camera, and did not get into the specific sensor sizes.

Other Positives to Take From the Rumors

If this very claim is genuine it certainly is disappointing, but it is however not all bad news. A 48MP iPhone 15 camera on the other hand will still very much likely be a slight upgrade on the 12MP snapper that is found on the iPhone 14, even if it does not get to match the cameras of the Pro models. This then would also make for a larger sensor than the 1/1.7-inch one that is used by the iPhone 14.

So this could however still be one of the more useful improvements that is offered by the iPhone 15 over its predecessor but however just not quite as useful as we had hoped, thus leaving it less likely to rank among the very best camera phones.
