The Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (FMSH) and the French Center for Ethiopian Studies (CFEE) are providing a two-month short-term fellowship in France for postdoctoral researchers from the Horn of Africa (Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, and Somaliland).
This research opportunity is intended to facilitate scholars in conducting research activities in France, including field investigations, and library and archival work.
Benefit
- Recipients will be granted a monthly stipend of 1 700€, which will be paid at the start of each month of their stay. This financial support covers expenses such as transportation and accommodation costs.
Eligibility criteria
- This program is available to researchers from Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, and Somaliland who are affiliated with a higher education and research institution or a public/private research institute in one of these countries.
- Applicants must have completed their PhD and defended their thesis after 2018.
- Applicants should be engaged in research within the social and human sciences field.
- Before submitting their application, applicants must secure a hosting institution in France for the duration of their stay. A letter from the hosting institution addressed to FMSH and CFEE, should be provided, expressing their willingness to host the applicant and explaining the working conditions offered.

- Sign in if you already have an account, otherwise, create a new account
- Please finish filling out your profile and choose the option “ Create a new application.'”
- Choose “Atlas incoming 2024 Program” and then the specific call “FMSH-CFEE: Horn of Africa > France”
- Fill in all sections of the form
- On the “Documents” tab, upload your research application as a single PDF document containing:
- Research proposal
- Signed cover letter
- CV (maximum 2 pages) and list of publications
- Copy of the Ph.D. diploma
- Letter from the director of the research institution in your country of origin
- An invitation letter from the head of the hosting research organization in France.
- You can save your application without submitting it and return to it later, or you can permanently submit it. Once submitted, you will receive an automatic confirmation email. Note that any applications not submitted will not be considered. Incomplete applications or those that do not adhere to the above description will also not be considered.
