Each year, one exceptional foreign correspondent or editor is awarded the Edward R. Murrow Press Fellowship.
Edward R. Murrow Press Fellowship
The fellowship entails a ten-month, full-time residency at CFR’s headquarters in New York, offering an immersive experience in analysis, writing, and active participation in CFR’s meetings and events.
The fellow becomes an integral part of the David Rockefeller Studies Program, CFR’s esteemed think tank, alongside a diverse group of full-time, adjunct, and visiting fellows specializing in crucial foreign policy issues.
Award details
- The fellowship commences in September and lasts for ten months.
- A stipend of $100,000 and a modest travel grant are provided.
- The fellow is considered an independent contractor, not an employee of CFR, and is not eligible for employment benefits, including health insurance.
Eligibility criteria
- Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
- Distinguished credentials in the field of journalism are required.
- Applicants should have a track record of covering international news as a working journalist for print, broadcast, or online media widely available in the United States.
Selection requirements
- Professional experience as a foreign correspondent or editor.
- A solid foundation in foreign policy.
- Clear, creative, and original application statement.
The selection process is highly competitive, with only one applicant chosen each year for the fellowship.
