Coimbra Group Universities Scholarship Programme 2024-2025 for Young African Researchers (Funding Available)

Applications are currently open for the Coimbra Group Universities Scholarship Programme 2024-2025 for Young African Researchers. Since 2008, Coimbra Group Universities have been offering young researchers from universities in Sub-Saharan Africa the opportunity to spend a brief period (typically 1 to 3 months) at a Coimbra Group University to conduct part of their research.

The primary objective of this scholarship programme is to facilitate scholars in pursuing research projects they are undertaking at their home institutions and to assist them in establishing academic and research connections in Europe.

Financial support for these scholarships is provided by the Coimbra Group member universities participating in the programme, while administrative management of the applications is overseen by the Coimbra Group Office.

  • University of Turku (Finland)
  • University of Würzburg (Germany)

Eligibility Criteria 

  • Applicants must be born on or after January 1, 1979.
  • Applicants must be nationals of and currently residing in a country in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Applicants must be current staff members of a university or equivalent higher education institution in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Preferably, applicants should be at the doctoral/postdoctoral or equivalent status.
  • Applicants must have an acceptance letter/email from the tutor/supervisor with whom the work programme will be undertaken at the host institution. This document is mandatory.
  • Applicants must utilize the Coimbra Group Office electronic application process.
  • Applicants should apply for one university only. Multiple applications will not be considered valid.
  • All information must be submitted in English only.
