Are you aware of the Chicago Artadia Awards 2024 for Visual Artists? Artadia is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the 2024 Chicago Awards, inviting all visual artists who have resided and practised within Cook County for a minimum of two years to apply. This marks the fifteenth cycle of the Chicago Awards.
Individual artists and collaborative teams working across various visual media, at any career stage, are strongly encouraged to submit their applications.
Selection Process
Awardees will be chosen through a rigorous two-tier jury process featuring a panel of esteemed curators in the spring of 2024. For this year’s Chicago Awards, the jury will designate three artists to each receive $15,000 in unrestricted funds.
It’s worth noting that one award will be specifically dedicated to an artist primarily engaged in performance or the performing arts.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the 2024 Chicago Artadia Awards, artists must meet the following criteria:
- Be contemporary visual artists, creating artwork intended for presentation within a contemporary art context (e.g., museums, galleries, public art installations).
- Reside and work within Cook County for a minimum of two years.
- Not currently enrolled in or planning to attend an art-related degree program in the coming year.
- Not affiliated with Artadia staff or directors in any capacity.
- Have not previously received an award from Artadia or The Art Council (Artadia’s former name), although former finalists are eligible to apply.
- Unless applying as a collaborative, the applicant must be the sole conceptual author of the submitted artwork.
Artadia is dedicated to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion, and values mutual respect for the diverse beliefs of all individuals and groups.
Application Guidelines
While artists at all career stages are welcome to apply, ideal candidates should demonstrate a high level of artistic excellence, maintain rigorous practice, and possess a clear artistic voice. Applicants are encouraged to submit work created within the past three years, providing a representative sample of their creative output.
Video submissions are limited to video art, animation, and performance documentation, excluding feature-length commercial films, documentaries, music videos, and commercial music projects.
Applicants are advised to complete their applications at least two days before the deadline to ensure timely submission. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
Application Requirements
Artadia employs a thorough two-tier jury process, combining local expertise with external perspectives from leading national curators.
A preliminary panel will select six Award Finalists, followed by a virtual studio. Visits with the Finalists were conducted by two curators, one of whom is based in the Award city.
