Recent South African University graduates passionate about building a career in the Civil Society and Government sectors are invited to apply for the ASRI Future Leaders Programme. This intensive, full-time graduate training programme is designed to groom young individuals for impactful careers in the Civil Society and Government sectors. If you’re socially and politically active in your community, this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.

The ASRI Future Leaders Programme – Programme Overview

Currently in its sixth iteration, the ASRI Future Leaders Programme has been transformative since its inception in 2016. Graduates from previous programmes have gone on to become influential leaders in various sectors, including non-profit organizations, interest groups, policy institutes, media organizations, and the public service.

The programme is a substantial investment, with approximately R90,000 allocated per graduate, covering materials, stipends, and operational costs. The 2024 ASRI Future Leaders Programme will run for a duration of four (4) months, requiring fellows to dedicate their time Monday to Thursday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm at the ASRI offices in Parktown, Johannesburg.

In the course of the programme, participants have the option to embark on a three-month work experience placement (externship) aligned with their aspirations, with an exceptional option for a three-month externship extension.

Benefits

For the 2024 programme, ASRI seeks to welcome 20 individuals, each receiving a monthly stipend of R3,500. As a bonus, participants will also be equipped with a data sim card boasting 20GB to 30GB of data per month throughout the programme.

It’s important to note that this stipend is not a job or employment opportunity; rather, it serves as a monthly allowance to cover travel and subsistence costs.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the programme, applicants must meet the criteria below:

  • Community & Leadership Experience: Applicants must be actively involved in their community with leadership experience.
  • Academic: Should hold at least an undergraduate degree or diploma, additional qualifications being advantageous.
  • Attendance Requirement: Commit to being present Monday to Thursday, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, from the end of January to June.
  • Age Limit: Below 30 years old.
  • Applicants must possess South African citizenship or permission to reside in South Africa.
  • Must commit to remaining active within the ASRI Alumni Network post-programme, benefiting from ongoing mentorship and support.

Application Process

  • Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria are encouraged to apply now as applications close on November 25th 2023 at midnight.
  • ASRI screens and selects applications as they come in, so submitting yours early is key.
  • Subsequently, Interviews will be conducted from December 04 to 14 December 2023, with the programme kicking off on the 29th of January 2024.
