  1. The 2024 Global competition focuses on promoting climate justice. They view climate change as a fundamental human rights issue and seek images depicting individuals affected by the worsening climate crisis.

This includes climate refugees, the very young and elderly, individuals with disabilities or injuries, those living in poverty, indigenous communities, island populations, and women. They also welcome images of climate advocates pushing for change, as well as individuals working to combat and reverse climate change.

Photography 4 Humanity is an international project established by Right Here, Right Now that invites photographers worldwide to capture the essence of human rights through their photographs. By showcasing the most impactful imagery – portraying courage, despair, hope, injustice, compassion, and human rights setbacks or triumphs in both subtle and significant ways – these images aim to inspire individuals to personally engage and take a stand for human rights.

Benefits

  • The winner of the 2024 Global Prize will be awarded $5,000 in USD.
  • On December 10, 2024, the Global Prize winner, along with the top 10 Finalists and 20 Honorable Mentions, will have their work showcased globally on UN.org.
  • Subsequently, the Global Prize winner, top 10 Finalists, and 20 Honorable Mentions will contribute to the opening of the 2025 Right Here, Right Now Global Climate Summit, hosted by the University of Oxford on June 5, 2025, which coincides with UN World Environment Day.

Eligibility Criteria

  • It is required that individuals are at least 18 years of age or older.
  • Entries can be submitted from February 1, 2024, 12:00 PM EST, to August 1, 2024, 12:00 PM PST.
  • The photography should focus on showcasing the impact of climate change on people and/or efforts to combat and reduce its effects.
  • Each photograph submitted must include the photographer’s name, title, date, location, and description.
  • All images must have been captured between August 1, 2023, and August 1, 2024.
