Netflix is now making its $6.99 per month ad-supported tier a much better value. The streaming firm is now upping the video quality from 720p to 1080p and it will allow subscribers to watch two streams at once, the firm said in its Q1 2023 letter to investors. Subscribers in both Canada and Spain will get access to the improved features beginning today and it will be available in all 12 of the markets where the company offers its ads plan sometime in the latter parts of this month.

Netflix Ad-Supported Plan Success

Netflix has stated that it is “pleased” with the progress of Basic with Ads, which was launched back in November, and also notes that its total average revenue per membership in the US for the ads plan already exceeded that of the standard plan. The company also says that recent licensing deals simply mean the ads tier now offers “on average ~95 percent content parity globally (by viewing)” of the no-ads plans, which as you should know sounds like it addresses one of my key complaints with the ads plan when it was tried by users at launch.

Other Important Netflix Announcements

It is really good to see that Netflix is improving its most affordable plan, and most importantly soon after Warner. Bro Discovery just announced that it would be charging more for 4K with its newly announced max service. Netflix on Tuesday also announced that it would be delaying the broad launch of its password-sharing crackdown to Q2 and it also shut down its DVD-shipping service.
