You can now explore many more free TV options on Google TV as part of an update to the platform that will be rolling out over the next couple of weeks. Google recently said that it is adding free channels from Tubi, Plex, and Haystack News into the Live tab on its platform, on top of its existing channels from Pluto TV. The firm said that it will now be offering over 800 free TV channels to browse.

Google TV Started Integrating Access to Ad-Supported Television Channels This Week

Google TV started integrating access to ad-supported television channels in the early part of this week, as per a Tuesday blog post from Google. The new offerings in question as you should know include built-in channels from Google TV as well as other news channels from NBC, ABC, CBS, and Fox.

This very push to highlight more free channels on Google TV which is the tech giant’s platform for Chromecast streaming devices and smart TVs could, in turn, help it stand out from Roku, Apple, and many other competitors. In a recent review of the Chromecast with Google TV HD, Sarah Lord of CNET however, found the Google TV home screen to be “cluttered and overwhelming.” The new Live tab layout in question could now help the platform to make it easier to browse.

Users Can Now Browse the Channels on the Platform by Topic and Genre

And in addition to the increased channel offerings, you can now browse the channels on the platform by topic and genre in the TV guide right in the Live tab. The Live tab also allows users to see their over-the-air TV channels or a premium live TV subscription from YouTube TV or even from Sling TV.

Other Changes to the Google TV Interface

Google back in February unveiled the other changes to its Google TV interface, and this is including adding four new content pages in the For You tab.

All of Google TV devices in the US will now be able to access the new live TV set up within the next couple of weeks, as per reports from the company.
