Yes, it’s that time of year again, which is the armpit of the holiday season: Christmas Day is finally done and New Years Eve is still a couple of days away, nobody really knows when the bins are supposed to go out and every day feels very much like a Sunday. That simply means that it is the perfect time to stream Slow Horses on Apple TV Plus. This is not just one of the best shows on Apple TV, although it is. It is just one of the best shows on any streamer currently.

The finale of the third Season went live on 27 December and as usual delivered a delicious and very stressful end to what has been a spectacular season. The third season of the show is currently sitting at 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and has also attracted a couple of five-star reviews, which is part of a pattern that saw the second season get 100% and the first on the other hand 95%.

Cast and Characters of the Slow Horses

The show as you should know stars Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb, who in question a truly awful human being who is in charge of a motley crew of MI5 misfits and security service screw-ups hence the slow horses of the title. Each series as you should know is action-packed, terrifically twisty and at most times very funny, especially in the case when Oldman is on screen to chew the scenery and then abuse his underlings.

The show altogether is an absolute blast, and this third season in question is at most times unbearably tense. That said, it is best watched now that you can binge it instead of having to wait a whole week after particularly cruel cliffhangers.

Critic’s Reaction to the Third Season of Slow Horses

Empire in question gives season 3 the full five stars, referring to it as “a gloriously low-fi subversion of traditional espionage thrillers, centered around an outcast band of MI5’s least wanted.” It’s “a beautifully crafted prestige drama that would be more than worthy of a prime-time slot on BBC One” and just reason enough to get you to subscribe to Apple TV Plus.

Rolling Stone and Vogue

Rolling Stone on the other hand says season three is “better than ever” and that it appears to be talking about me: “it’s the sort of show where, if you mention the title to someone who watches, their face will light up and they won’t stop monologuing about it for at least three minutes.” And Vogue on its end calls the season three “a kinetic, escapist delight” just like 24 but however without the bad bits: it’s “a show to watch with mom and dad over the holidays, or (teenage) daughter and son”.

Variety

Variety states that it is “delightfully grim”, and also while there is many spy stuff and shooting “at its core it is the tale of precariously employed worker drones making their way through a broken workplace led by a flatulent boss with hair that hasn’t been washed since Guy Fawkes Day 2011.”

Slow Horses Season 4

All three seasons of the series, Slow Horses, are currently streaming on Apple TV Plus, and when you get to the end of it there is a thrilling trailer for the fourth Season. That is currently scheduled for December 2024 so you have got many time to catch up.
