Subscribers to the Xbox game pass ultimate can now get some zombie-thumping action RPG Dead Island for this very weekend for free.

After the reveal of Dead Island 2 at Gamescom Opening Night Live just last month, the very first game that will be in the comically grotesque zombie series will be free for users to play on Xbox but for a limited time.

And according to a Microsoft blog post, Xbox Live Gold and Xbox games pass ultimate subscribers can play Dead Island Definitive Edition for free from this very moment until Monday, September 26 at 12 am PST / 3 am EST / 8 am BST / 6 pm AEDT.

Other Titles to Join Dead Island This Weekend

This game is joined by Hunting Simulator 2 title. And both of these gaming titles have been made free to play for the weekend as part of Xbox’s free play Days program which offers Game Pass and Gold subscribers new games to try out every new week.

For users who wish to get in on the action, you can now download the Dead island title for the weekend via your Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One. All you need to do is to navigate the store app and go to the subscriptions tab and tap on the Xbox live gold title. Once you have done that, you will need to scroll down to the free play day’s section. And there you should find Dead Island ready and waiting for the take.

Other Ways to Download the Dead Island Game For Free

You can also download the game remotely via your PC. All you need to do is to head over to the Dead Island listing page on the Microsoft store and sign in with your Xbox account. Once signed in, you should click on the green install to button. A list of all the consoles that are connected to your account will pop up thus letting you remotely install the game to whichever of the listed consoles you want.

The main campaign on Dead Island clocks in at around 20 hours. That being said, you will have to dedicate a lot of your weekend time to the vent that you want to see it all through. This title may not be the best co-op game around, but it is a gruesomely gung-ho melee violence type and a four-player campaign are worth your time with a couple of your friends. You should also know that this is the definitive edition too, so it should include all of the Dead Islands DLC that has been previously released.

Dead Island Sequel Ready for a Next Year Launch

Bashing and shooting through the heads of zombies across a tropical paradise might put you in the mood for the upcoming sequel of the game which is all set to be launched on February 3rd in the coming year. But you however should not be expecting a complete do-over.
