Elon Musk’s X, previously known as Twitter, has initiated a trial in New Zealand and the Philippines, where new users are charged $1 (£0.82) annually to access essential features like tweeting, retweeting, liking posts, and replying to posts.
Users who choose not to subscribe will have the option to read posts, watch videos, and follow accounts but won’t be able to interact with these features.

The platform has introduced this subscription fee as a measure to reduce spam, manipulation, and bot activity. Additionally, new users are required to verify their phone numbers during the registration process. But Mr. Musk clarified that it will remain free to create “read-only” accounts, which do not include the key interactive features.
