Women’s Equality Day is celebrated in the United States every August 26 to commemorate the 19th Amendment of the United States Constitution.
Initially, women were prohibited from voting on account of their sex but the law was amended as women voting rights for women were established.

The date August 26th was chosen when Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby signed the proclamation granting American women the constitutional right to vote.
This was followed by the nationwide strike in 1973 as they battled for the Equal Rights Amendment which was led by congresswoman Bella Abzug.
After women were given the equal right to vote, it served as the first step towards the full participation of women in our nation’s life.
