The University of Lethbridge Graduate Research Award (ULGRA) embodies a commitment to nurturing scholarly pursuits by providing financial assistance to graduate students.

Valued at up to CAD$21,000, this prestigious award is designed to support students enrolled in full-time thesis or project-based master’s and doctoral programs across various disciplines, excluding specific programs within the Faculty of Education and the MSc Management Business Analytics (BANA) concentration.

Scholarship Value

The ULGRA offers remarkable financial support to deserving candidates, with units of CAD$3,000 per annum, extendable up to a maximum of 7 units ($21,000) annually.

Upon confirmation of full-time enrollment at the University of Lethbridge, recipients receive their scholarship in three equal semester installments, providing a consistent source of funding throughout their academic journey.

Applicant Criteria

Eligibility for the ULGRA is contingent upon admission to or continuation in a full-time thesis or project-based master’s and doctoral program within approved departments.

The eligible programs encompass a broad range of disciplines, including but not limited to Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Arts, Master of Music, and Master of Science.

Selection criteria prioritize academic achievement and demonstrated research potential, as evaluated by the respective department, faculty, or program area.

  • Unlike traditional scholarship applications, the ULGRA does not require a separate application process. Instead, all eligible candidates are automatically considered at the time of application to an eligible graduate program.
  • The selection is completed by the applicable Program Committee during the admission process, streamlining the application process for prospective students.

NOTE: Under the terms of the GSA Collective Agreement, students may hold the ULGRA in addition to any Graduate Assistantship and/or Research Stipend awarded by a faculty member.  Students are not allowed to hold the SGS Dean’s Scholarship or the SGS Tuition Scholarship at the same time as the ULGRA.

Selection Process

Applicants are assessed based on their potential to contribute meaningfully to their field of study, with emphasis placed on their ability to undertake rigorous research endeavors.

Scholarship Renewal

Students holding the ULGRA are permitted to concurrently pursue Graduate Assistantships and/or Research Stipends, further augmenting their financial resources while pursuing their academic goals.
