The Fraser Basin Council and the Elizabeth Henry Scholarship Committee, are now receiving Applications for the 2023 Elizabeth Henry Scholarship Fund for Communities and Environmental Health.

UBC Elizabeth Henry Scholarship Fund

The Elizabeth Henry Scholarship Fund for Communities and Environmental Health is created to provide support to graduate students who are working on research projects in partnership with one or more Indigenous or non-Indigenous British Columbia communities.

These communities are expected to be addressing air quality, and environmental health issues and/or promoting environmental sustainability through cooperative initiatives.

Elizabeth Henry Scholarship Fund was created in 2014, and supported by Fraser Basin Council and friends. The scholarship was established in memory of Elizabeth Henry and her many contributions to communities across British Columbia. The award is offered annually to a graduate student whose proposed research is based in British Columbia.

Elizabeth demonstrated integrity and high ethical standards in her work, she was keen to promote dialogue and respect among diverse stakeholders. Therefore, this scholarship is offered with the aim of supporting community projects that reflect her values.

How to Apply for Elizabeth Henry Scholarship Fund 2023 For Communities and Environmental Health?

  • You will be asked to provide the following: Basic contact information, previous experience, and a project description (max 750 words).
  • Soft copies of the following will also be required: Undergraduates transcript, Graduates transcript, and two signed letters of reference on official letterhead evaluating the candidate’s capabilities, and feasibility of the research project.

Eligibility Criteria for Elizabeth Henry Scholarship Fund

  • Applicants must be a full-time graduate student to be awarded the scholarship
  • The proposed research project is expected to focus on working in partnership with one or more Indigenous and/or non-Indigenous British Columbia communities that address air quality and environmental health issues and promote environmental sustainability through cooperative initiatives.
  • Projects should be well-defined in terms of objectives and research methodologies
  • The projects must have tangible project outcomes that provide direct and ethically sound benefits to the community.
  • Innovative projects will be given preference
  • Projects that directly engage the community will be preferred
