Twitch streamer Kai Cenat is set to be charged with inciting a riot after a very chaotic giveaway in Union Square. Executives of NYPD stated that Kai Cenat will reportedly be charged on “at least two counts” for the event that took place on Friday.
Twitch Streamer Charged With Inciting Riot
On Friday, a very massive gathering of people reportedly showed up at New York City’s Union Square for a giveaway that was hosted by two social media influencers, mega-popular Twitch streamer Kai Cenat as well as another streamer, Fanum. Cenat and “a few other people” have already been arrested, according to NBC 4 reports.
NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey in one press conference that was given after the incident took place, responded to questions regarding Cenat, saying, “We do have him,” but however did not specify in what precinct. And according to Maddrey, the NYPD became aware of the reported posts at about 1:30 PM ET, just before the posts went viral at around 3 PM. And after some in the crowd started to act violently, he stated, the police removed Cenat from the park just before eventually proceeding to declare the gathering an unlawful assembly.
A Second Press Conference on Friday
During a second press conference that was held on Friday, Maddrey announced that Cenat is however expected to be charged with “at least two counts” of inciting a riot as well as unlawful assembly. He at the time, told reporters that there had been 65 arrests, which is inclusive of 30 juveniles, and he also noted that several civilians as well as police officers who were sent to the hospital after the event to have injuries treated, which is inclusive of at least one teenager harmed by fireworks and some people who also suffered broken bones.

Some subway trains in question bypassed Union Square due to the gathering, but the NYCT Subway account however posted later that the L train is reportedly making the stop.

The giveaway in question was set to take place at Union Square Park at 4 PM ET, and the park that was to be used was already full of people by 3 PM. Cenat however posted a nearly three-minute stream on Twitch in a big crowd that didn’t get to show any much detail.
Both Cenat and Fanum have continued to post to social media, sharing and also deleting images on their Instagram stories, which is including one with the text, “I love you guys to the fullest you guys are amazing, THE LOVE FROM HOME BASE IS REAL, Please be safe.”
