If you are one of the people whole likes the idea of an iPad but actually thinks that the iPad Pro 12.9 is still very much small, then apple may just have something that you may like currently in the works as a new leak now suggests that the company is working on a gargantuan 16-inch iPad.

This news is according to The Information via Phone Arena who has spoken to a person that is familiar with the project, and this new larger model apparently will go on sale in the last couple of months of 2023.

The Theory behind the Idea

The plan apparently is to make the iPad even more like a laptop with this 16-inch screen directly matching the size of the largest laptop by apple which is the 16-inch MacBook Pro (2021). The extra screen that will be coming with this one would have its own benefits obviously as it may create more room to split screen windows and among other things, a bigger canvas for drawing with the Apple Pencil.

If apple however really wants to make an iPad that is looking more like a laptop, then there is still plenty of work to be done on the software aspect as reviews on the 2022 iPad Pro show that the stage manager multitasking features is still a little under-baked and that iPadOS as a whole has workflow problems that is dragging it back from facilitating some real productivity.

What a Big Screen Means For Buyers

In any case, this bigger screen size will, of course, and as you should know comes at a cost literally. And while the report does not make any mention in regards to a price, the iPad Pro 12.9 (2022) starts at $1,099 / £1,249 / AU$1,899, so a 16-inch Pro model on the other hand would very much likely be significantly more expensive.

That being said, the report doesn’t actually say whether this monster slate would be part of the Pro device line, but we really cannot imagine it would be a lower-end model, so it will presumably be an iPad Pro or a new super-premium slate. Perhaps or maybe an iPad Pro Max or an iPad Ultra?

Is the Rumor Genuine?

And as ever, we would advise you to take this leak with a pinch of salt, but Apple has clearly been trying to bridge the gap with its laptops for a while now, so it’s quite believable that a larger iPad would be in the works to further that very goal.
