TCL unveiled pricing details for its upcoming Nxtpaper phones, slated for release in the US later this year. The company introduced the 50 series lineup, including the 50 XL Nxtpaper 5G and the 50 XE Nxtpaper 5G, during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The larger 50 XL Nxtpaper 5G will be priced under $229 (approximately £180, AU$350), while the smaller 50 XE Nxtpaper 5G will cost under $199. TCL refrained from providing specific prices, as wireless carriers often offer discounts on their phones. Both models are scheduled to launch in the third quarter of this year.

Unveiled alongside the rest of the 50 series at CES 2024, the 50 XL Nxtpaper features a 6.8-inch FHD Plus display, while the XE model sports a 6.6-inch HD Plus display. These phones offer multiple display modes, including a standard view for everyday use with Android apps, a low-contrast color paper mode suitable for comics, and a black-and-white ink paper mode resembling an e-reader.

Both Nxtpaper Phones Feature a Matte Display Finish with Minimal Glare

In a hands-on assessment, it was noted that both Nxtpaper phones feature a matte display finish with minimal glare. Further testing will be conducted upon the phones’ release to confirm this observation.

TCL also disclosed pricing for its conventional display phones, including the $169 TCL 50 XL 5G and the $149 50 XE 5G. The XL variant will be available at Metro by T-Mobile in the second quarter, featuring a smooth 120Hz refresh rate display, while the XE will launch in the third quarter with a 90Hz display.

Specs and Features of the Lineup

The lineup also includes the $99 TCL 50 LE phone, equipped with a 6.6-inch HD Plus display with a 90Hz refresh rate, a 4,000-mAh battery, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. Additional details, including the release date, will be provided later. Although not confirmed for the US market, TCL introduced the 50 SE phone, priced at 150 euros (about $160), featuring a 6.8-inch FHD Plus display, 12GB of memory, and 256GB of storage.
