Sony Announced the Launching Will Start in Asia

Sony during the latest state of play showcase announced that the new system would be launching in Asia this September just before it would roll out to North America and Europe in the preceding weeks.

You will be able to unlock many digital collectibles alongside converting your Stars loyalty points to PSN wallet funds that can be used in purchasing games from the PS store. The collectibles amount to 3D figurines of products related to Sony. The company showed off a couple of the collectibles during the State of Play that included an Ape Escape diorama which is a model PS3 and also a Sony MP3 player.

What Sony Has To Say about the Collectibles

The collectibles according to a post on the Sony blog are all intended to be “digital representations of things that PlayStation fans enjoy, including figurines of beloved and iconic characters from games and other forms of entertainment, as well as cherished devices that tap into Sony’s history of innovation”.

Sony during the showcase emphasized that “there will always be something new to collect and show off to your friends”. You should however expect the virtual keepsakes to get bigger after the launch of the PlayStation Stars as the number of collectibles only continues to grow larger.

The Collectibles Are Not NFTs And Will Not Make Use of Blockchain Technology

Vice president of network advertising, loyalty, and licensed merchandise at Sony, Grace Chen, speaking to the Washington Post in the early parts of this year confirmed that the digital collectibles were not NFTs and also did not make use of Blockchain technology.
