Gaming console company Nintendo according to several sources may just be gearing up for the launch of its next console way sooner than you just may think.

Ever since the Nintendo Switch OLED was released back in 2021, we have been wondering when we will get to see a Nintendo Switch 2. And while we originally theorized that it would be around six years until the very next console from the company, thus placing the release date around 2027, current reports at the moment seem to disagree with the theory.

And according to a report by VGC, multiple people with inside knowledge of the next-gen plans of Nintendo, the company is now getting ready to release the new console in the second half of the year 2024. This supposedly will ensure that the stock doesn’t run out on the first day, as we have seen with the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

What a 2024 Release Date Means For the Switch

A 2024 release date for the Switch simply would mean a mid-cycle launch for new hardware in contrast to the PlayStation and Xbox. This is something that has somewhat been a historical trend for Nintendo.

So far, not much else is really known in regards to the highly-anticipated console. Sources, however, were able to describe just how the upcoming Switch will have a portable mode, which is very much like the Nintendo Switch before it.

The Newest Console May Get To Launch with an LCD Screen

VGC also reported that the newest console may get to launch with an LCD screen instead of the high-quality premium OLED as you already know. And while it may not be able to rival the Nintendo OLED in regards to handheld quality, this very downgrade could simply mean lower prices. And even despite the potential of an LCD screen, we are still very much hoping to see significant technical upgrades. With no form of 4K output when docked, the Switch in question as you should know is starting to show its age.

Dr Serkan Toto, a Tokyo-based industry consultant told VGC that by “looking at Nintendo’s financials, it seems clear that it’s time for a new piece of hardware in 2024. The only way to stop these losses from totally ballooning next fiscal is a new device, and the second half of 2024 sounds like a realistic release window to me.”

Is Switch OLED More Powerful

OLED as you know stand for organic light-emitting diode and this is one of the newer technologies that is available for TVs as well as other type of digital displays. And now that you know what an OLED mean, let’s get to the question proper. Well, you should know that both performance and power remain the same on both the standard Switch and the OLED Switch as neither RAM, Battery life, nor even the processors were improved from the previous model to the next.
