We are all but inching ever closer to the premiere of 3 Body Problems on Netflix, and today, that simply means yet another glimpse at the sci-fi adaptation. Whereas the trailer prior to this one focused on the incredibly immersive virtual reality game at the middle of the whole thing, the latest clip in question focuses more on something different and that is the mystery. Basically, a whole bunch of scientists has reportedly gone missing, and the character of Benedict Wong is trying to figure out what it all means.

Netflix’s Description of the Show’s Premise

The show, of course, is reportedly based on the novel by Cixin Liu (which was just the very first part of a trilogy), and Netflix on the other hand describes the premise thusly:

“The story begins in 1960s China when a young woman makes a fateful decision that reverberates across space and time into the present day. When the laws of nature as we know them inexplicably unravel, a tight-knit group of brilliant scientists must join forces with an unflinching detective to stop humanity’s greatest threat.”

Cast and Character of the Show

The series as you should know features an excellent cast. And in addition to Wong, there is Jovan Adepo, John Bradley, Rosalind Chao, Liam Cunningham, Eiza González, Jess Hong, Marlo Kelly, Alex Sharp, Sea Shimooka, Zine Tseng, Saamer Usmani, and Jonathan Pryce. And the whole thing is being helmed by showrunners Alexander Woo, David Benioff, and D.B. Weiss (with the former duo being best known for another epic adaptation with Game of Thrones on HBO).

In a post shared on Netflix’s Tudum site, Woo talked a tad bit about how the team is approaching shifting 3 Body Problem from book to television.

“What we are hoping to do is to convey the experience — if not necessarily the exact details — of the novel onto the screen,” he explained. “What stayed, we hope, is the sense of wonderment and the sense of scope, of scale, where the problems are no longer just the problems of an individual or even a nation, but of an entire species.”

When Will the Show Start Streaming?

The newly released trailer reveal was part of CES 2024, which as you should know makes a certain kind of sense given the sleek, futuristic VR headset of 3 Body Problem. The show will begin streaming on March 21st.
