- Awardees are required to devote at least 75% of their time to the research project.

- Applicants with a Ph.D. should have obtained their doctoral degree within four years of the grant application date.
- Those who have held a Ph.D. for more than four years or individuals in permanent salaried positions during the application period are not eligible for the Morris Animal Foundation Fellowship. However, they may explore other funding opportunities through the First Award mechanism.
- The foundation also encourages applications from historically marginalized groups with a focus on wildlife health topics.
