Executives of Microsoft pondered on creating a super app to build the advertising business of the company and other areas simply by integrating news, search, messaging, shopping, and many other additional services into a single app as per reports.

And in addition to boosting the ad business of the tech company, executives at Microsoft hoped that the app would help them to boost its very own Bing search engine, thus driving people to tools by Microsoft such as Teams and other mobile services, according to a report on Tuesday by The Information, which cited individuals with direct knowledge of the discussions.

Apple Does Not Offer an App Marketplace for Consumers as Google and Apple

At the moment, the tech company does not offer an app marketplace for consumers just as Google and Apple do. But however, an all-in-one app that helps to drive core users to Bing and other services by Microsoft could help the company to compete better with Google and apple in the consumer services market and also in mobile search.

There is no official indication from Microsoft that such an app will be coming, but the report, however, suggests that executives at the company have ambitions to create what Tencent’s WeChat app has in place in china and what Elon Musk hinted at previously before closing on his deal to acquire Twitter. Musk back in October said buying Twitter was an “accelerant” to building “X, the everything app.”

Elon Musk Plans to Create an App after WeChat’s Model

Back in May, Musk suggested on the All-In podcast that he has plans for an app that would take after WeChat’s model.

“WeChat is actually a good model. If you’re in China, you kind of live on WeChat. It does everything. It’s sort of like Twitter plus PayPal plus a whole bunch of other things all rolled into one with actually a great interface,” Elon Musk stated on the podcast. “And we don’t have anything like that outside of China. So I think such an app would be really useful.”
