The Malaria Modelling Fellowship 2024 is now accepting applications. This fellowship aims to enhance the mathematical modelling skills of public health professionals in Nigeria.
Participants will undergo a comprehensive curriculum covering essential modeling concepts, an in-depth understanding of malaria epidemiology including transmission dynamics, and additional modules to advance their careers and equip them with sought-after modeling expertise.
Funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), this fellowship is a joint initiative involving Corona Management Systems (CMS), the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP), the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), and the World Health Organization (WHO).
The fellowship seeks to:
- Increase the number of doctoral and post-doctoral-level mathematical modelers with expertise in malaria, based at Nigerian institutions.
- Enhance the capacity of the National Malaria Elimination Program (NMEP) in utilizing modeling approaches for strategic planning and evaluation.
Benefits
- The MMF covers all expenses, including logistical support for attending both physical and online sessions. Special assistance will be provided for female fellows with children under 18 months old.
Eligibility
- Applicants must have a Master’s degree or higher in public health. Epidemiology (including environmental, parasite, and veterinary epidemiology), biostatistics, bioinformatics, or applied mathematics.
- Specialized training in malaria and other infectious disease control programs is preferred, especially for residents and graduates from accredited Field Epidemiology training programs.
- Applicants must be affiliated with a Nigerian public institution working in human health, and animal health. Or the environment and have at least 3 years of professional experience.
- Before enrollment, successful candidates’ institutions must be willing to officially release them for scheduled physical training sessions in FCT, Abuja.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and effective verbal and written communication skills in English. Demonstrable problem-solving abilities and the capability to work efficiently with minimal supervision are required.
