Radio host, journalist, and longtime horror aficionado Louise Blain is set to start working at Blumhouse Games, thus joining the horror games outfit that is currently fledging, a creative lead. This very position will see her identifying opportunities for the gaming company Blumhouse Games, but it will also be vetting potential partners in the industry.

Blumhouse Games for those that don’t know was launched back in February as part of the multimedia company Blumhouse, with Zach Wood as its president and then Don Sechler as its chief financial officer. The subsidiary in question has a particular focus on horror games (across PCs, consoles, and even down to mobile). As Bloody Disgusting reported at the said time, Blumhouse Games in question aims to target horror games with indie budgets (which is reportedly less than $10 million).

“Through my time in the industry, I’ve had the good fortune of working closely with developers to bring their ideas to life,” Wood in a statement back in February wrote. “There’s a unique opportunity for horror and genre in the indie game space, and I’m thrilled about teaming up with Blumhouse to meaningfully leverage the company’s brand, reputation, and creative talent.”

Smart Move from Blumhouse

This is a very smart aim as horror games have quite the reputation for being cheaper to create as they at most times don’t require a lot of expensive assets or a lot of complicated mechanics. A scare, which is very much like in the production of horror movies which are similarly cheap to create, doesn’t have a dollar value attached to them.

This here is good because Blumhouse already knows just how to terrify people. Blumhouse Productions as you should know is best known for producing horror movies such as The Purge, M3GAN as well as Paranormal Activity. Blumhouse on the other hand is also reportedly producing the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie adaptation which will be starring Josh Hutcherson and is then set to release in cinemas in the coming month.

Blain’s Former Acquaintances before Blumhouse

Blain in question has accumulated many bylines over the years, at publications which is including GamesRadar+, TechRadar, PC Gamer, NME, and even The Guardian. She also serves as the writer as well as a presenter of Sound of Gaming on BBC Radio 3 and has been consulting on various horror games just before her work with Blumhouse.

Blumhouse and Its Love for Horror Properties

And while Blumhouse does have a wedge of horror properties – and this writer in question and in particular would love the idea of a The Purge game, the stated plan back when the gaming imprint launched back in February was for the firm to pursue original properties that are within video games. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and see what happens next.
