The 2024-25 Latvian Government Scholarships are now open for applications from eligible international students who want to pursue their studies in Latvia.
Latvia is situated in northern Europe on the east coast of the Baltic Sea, it is the center nation of the Baltic States, which also includes Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
Latvian Government Scholarships Details
Dedicated candidates seeking undergraduate, graduate, or doctorate degrees are eligible for Latvian Government Scholarships. International students who want to register for the academic year 2024–2025 can also apply for these scholarships.
At the time of application, Candidates must have completed at least one academic year of study if they are applying for a bachelor’s degree or the first level of professional higher education. If they have already been studying in Latvia, this could take place at a higher education institution in their home country or Latvia.
Duration of Programme
The duration of the Latvian Government Scholarships are:
- For bachelor’s and master’s studies: One academic year
- Master’s degree programme: Two academic years.
Benefits of Latvian Government Scholarships
- Selected Candidates for the bachelor’s program will receive a monthly stipend worth EUR 500.
- Selected Master’s degree students will receive a monthly stipend worth 600 EUR
- While Ph.D. scholarship recipients will receive a monthly stipend worth 700 EUR
- The stipends provided to scholarship holders will be used to cover accommodation and meals.
- Scholarship recipients may be provided with a place in a student’s dormitory or a guesthouse by the higher education institution
Eligibility Requirements
Candidates must meet the criteria below to be eligible for this scholarship:
- The prospective Candidates must be nationals of countries having an agreement with Latvia or offer scholarships for Latvian citizens
- The language of instruction at Latvian higher education institutions is mainly Latvian. However, there are study programmes offered in English (please note that English Courses are not free of charge. Students may use the scholarship to cover the course costs for those whose courses are in English)
- Students will be required to meet specific English language/other language requirements
- Bachelor’s degree Candidates must have completed at least one academic year of studies

- Students must Register first and create a personal profile
- After which they proceed to complete the application form and attach the required documents listed below

Required Documents
- Curriculum Vitae CV using the Europas template form
- A Letter of motivation showing activities beyond studies but related to the study field in Latvia.
- Photocopies of diplomas of higher education or a transcript of records of the last two study semesters
- Two letters of recommendation
- A Study plan for the duration of the scholarship
- Any document certifying the language proficiency required for studies.
- An identification document or a passport.
