Established in 2016 by the Government of Jamaica (GOJ) through the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), the Jamaica House Fellowship Programme (JHFP) recognizes the presence of many talented Jamaicans who are passionate about contributing to their country’s development. The program aims to provide these individuals with a platform to make a meaningful impact.

Being selected as a Jamaica House Fellow is considered an honor and a privilege. During the two-year duration of the JHFP, Fellows work as full-time, paid participants assigned to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the Government. They collaborate with senior GOJ technocrats in a dynamic and cooperative environment, taking on complex tasks and contributing to the fast-paced nature of the program.

Program Overview

Jamaica House Fellows participate in a two-year program where they serve as full-time paid personnel assigned to the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) or other relevant Government of Jamaica (GOJ) offices, as deemed necessary. During this period, they collaborate closely with senior government technocrats.

Work Environment

Under the direct guidance and supervision of the Chief Technical Director in the OPM, Fellows engage in a diverse range of high-impact projects within a fast-paced and collaborative work environment.

Responsibilities

Fellows are expected to contribute actively to addressing critical issues and challenges that impact Jamaica’s growth and development. This involves working collegially and cooperatively with fellow Fellows and other staff members within the Ministry.

The program provides a unique opportunity for Fellows to make substantial contributions to the nation’s progress while gaining valuable experience working alongside seasoned government professionals.

Eligibility Criteria 

  • All candidates must be Jamaican citizens.
  • Candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 35 years at the time of submitting their application.

Education

  • An Undergraduate Degree is required.

Skills & Competencies

  • Knowledge of Government of Jamaica (GOJ) priorities, economic programs/policies, and Vision 2030.
  • Familiarity with international affairs/initiatives, including strategic priorities of organizations such as the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), European Union (EU), World Bank, and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). This includes understanding Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) and Globalization and their impact on Jamaica’s economic growth and development.
