Pentecost signifies the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles of Jesus Christ while they were in Jerusalem in the upper room, celebrating the Feast of Weeks.

Where Did Pentecost Come From?

Pentecost was a feast celebrated by the Jewish, although it wasn’t then referred to as Pentecost. According to the Jewish, it was called the Feast of Harvest or the Feast of Weeks. The word Pentecost can be found in five places in the bible which are Exodus 23 and 24, Leviticus 16, Numbers 28, and Deuteronomy 16.

Meanwhile, there are certain festivals that were being celebrated before the feast of Pentecost, these include the famous feast of Passover, the feast of the unleavened bread, and the festival of First fruits.

Now based on the account of the New Testament, the Jews usually attend the celebration of the First fruits, and then from that day, they would count off 50 days.  The fiftieth day is then considered to be the Day of Pentecost.

Therefore, the festival of the First fruits is the beginning of the barley harvest, While Pentecost is the celebration of the beginning of the wheat harvest.

This year, Pentecost will be celebrated on the 28 of May. We have earlier established the fact that Pentecost is a major festival in the Christian church and is celebrated by believers on Sunday that falls on the 50th day of Easter.
