House of the Dragon season 2 and White Lotus third season get new dates, and it’s all mixed news. And away from that, more big Max/HBO shows get a reported new schedule.
House of the Dragon and White Lotus Get New Dates
We have got some really good news and bad news regarding the new season of White Lotus, which is the prequel series to Stephen King’s It, and more House of the Dragon. The third season of White Lotus and the It prequel have both been moved to the year 2025, but House of the Dragon season 2 on the other hand now has a release date and it is coming in the summer of 2024.
Let’s kick things off with House of the Dragon. The summer 2024 release date of the second season was confirmed at a press event on November 2, during which the company behind it, HBO network head Casey Bloys showed a trailer to reporters. And unfortunately for us, the content of the trailer which was aired to reporters which is set 200 years before the said events of the original Game of Thrones – is under embargo at the moment so nobody is allowed to tell you what’s in it.
Bloys also revealed to reporters that the Game of Thrones spin-off A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight will start shooting in the early parts of 2024, having been delayed by the strikes. So it is all good news all around about the progress of shows for fans and lovers of GoT.
The news about White Lotus season 3 and the It prequel on the other hand was also revealed at the very same event, and unfortunately that news in question wasn’t as welcome as the latter.
What Is Happening To the Second Season of White Lotus and the Prequel to It
As reported by Variety, Bloys revealed to reporters that the writers’ and actors’ strikes had reportedly affected the plans of HBO for some of its most anticipated shows. “White Lotus’ season 3 probably would have been in play for 2024, it’s 2025,” Bloys stated; the show as you should know was in the early stages of production just before having to shut down completely.
The It prequel, Welcome to Derry, on the other hand, has also been delayed. “Welcome to Derry, we had that scheduled for Halloween of 2024,” Bloys stated. “That’s likely 2025”. Set in the same universe as the original novel of Stephen King’s It, the details of the show are being kept under wraps but however, promises to expand on the stories revealed in the films It and It Chapter Two. And just like White Lotus season 3, the show in question was in production in the early parts of this year just before having to pause production.
Other HBO/Max Shows With Their New Scheduled Dates
One of the reporters that was covering the event was Meghan O’Keefe of Decider, who reportedly posted details of HBO/Max’s 2024 slate on X (formerly known as Twitter). Some of the highlights as you should know include season 4 of True Detective and season 12 of Curb Your Enthusiasm in January; Kate Winslet’s The Regime, Pretty Little Liars Summer School, the third season of Hacks and Sex Lives of College Girls season in the spring; Industry season 3 and My Brilliant Friend season 4 in the summer; and The Penguin, Dune: Prophecy and The Franchise in the fall. And just as expected, the second season of The Last of Us is not scheduled until the year 2025.
