The Boston University AI Grant (FLAG) initiative is encouraging faculty and graduate teaching fellows to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to improve student learning and engagement at BU.
Generative AI, which can generate unique content based on existing text, audio, or images, has the potential to revolutionize various tasks. For instance, the Intelligence Module can write essays and code, DALL-E can create images and art, and other forms of generative AI can produce recipes, music, and videos.
This groundbreaking capability has the power to reshape our thinking, creativity, teaching, and learning methods. It may also change our perspective on what knowledge is essential. The FLAG initiative acts as a platform for exploring, designing, and implementing new pedagogical approaches using generative AI in courses and educational programs that foster learning for BU students.
Benefits
The following are the benefits of participating in the program:
- Funding of up to $5000 which can be used for expenses like technology licenses, hourly wages for students who can aid in project implementation or evaluation, and other related costs.
- Participants can take part in a generative AI community of practice through Microsoft Teams.
- They can also share their experience and project outcomes by presenting and discussing at events such as CTL lightning talk or through DL&I communication channels, such as authoring a blog post.
Eligibility Requirement
- The FLAG (Future of Learning Al Grants) initiative encourages faculty and graduate teaching fellows at Boston University to explore the potential of Al technologies in enhancing the overall student experience.
How to Apply
The FLAG Initiative accepts proposals on a monthly basis and these submissions are evaluated by the leads of three DL&I units, namely, the Center for Teaching & Learning, the Education Technology Group, and the Shipley Center. The expected response time for submissions is two weeks.
