One World Media in collaboration with Financial Times (FT), is searching for a mid-career journalist who is based in Sub-Saharan Africa and currently covering the region. Participating Journalists must, however, have an ambitious written story to tell a global audience.

One World Media is looking for a talented writer with some experience who can clearly and compellingly summarize a complicated story in terms that are accessible to a broad audience and relatable. The fellow whose application is selected is expected to create a piece of long-form journalism, a regional economic or business story that appeals to the Financial Times’ international readership.

FT African Journalism Fellowship 2023 – What to Expect

The Financial Times (FT) Fellow will be a part of the current One World Media Fellowship cohort and will receive mentoring and a reporting grant of £1,000 while learning with a talented international peer group.

With the intention of exhibiting the finished product on their worldwide platform, The Financial Times (FT) will offer additional training, editorial support, and one-on-one coaching from senior editors. Eligibility Criteria for FT One World Media Journalism Fellowship

  • The program is open to a journalist in the middle of their career who is based in or from Sub-Saharan Africa and who works in print, digital, or multimedia reporting.
  • One fellow will be selected to join the current OWM Fellowship cohort
  • Applicant must be a talented writer with some experience who can succinctly and compellingly summarize a complicated story in a way that is universally appealing and relatable.
  • Journalists with a great interest in business and international issues, a global perspective, and astute journalistic instincts are particularly encouraged to apply
  • The prospective candidate should be able to write persuasively and incisively about business, market, and economic issues. A great writing ability is required.
  • The successfully selected fellows may have the possibility of an extended engagement.
