Creator of The Super Smash Bros. Thinks It Would Be Difficult To Push the Series Any Further

Masahiro Sakurai the creator of the Super Smash Bros. series, has released a video talking in regard to the development of the latest installment of the fighting series, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, in which he reportedly admitted that the idea of trying to develop another game that would push the franchise any further than it is already gone would be really “difficult”.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as you should know was released for the Nintendo Switch back in the year 2018 and was by far the most ambitious title of the series to date. It was really groundbreaking if only because it was inclusive of every fighter from the past of the franchise and this is including Snake from the Metal Gear Solid games as well as the Ice Climbers from the NES title Ice Climber.

The title in question also introduced a couple of other new characters, such as Ridley from the Metroid series. The title even pushed this even further in its paid DLC, thus adding popular third-party characters such as Sora from Kingdom Hearts, Joker from Persona 5, and even Steve from Minecraft.

What the Titles Creator Have To Say About the Recent Development

Considering all of this, and then combined with its large single-player campaign, it is quite understandable that Sakurai would be unsure of just how to top what Ultimate has already achieved. He reportedly said: “As for what comes next for the Smash Bros. series, even I’m not sure. I feel like we truly succeeded in making people happy with this game, but now that Smash Bros. has grown to be monstrous in size, I’d say it’s difficult to imagine an increase of this magnitude happening again.”

“Every time, we managed to make a game I had previously thought impossible, so I can’t say for certain that there won’t be another, but I do think it would be difficult to push it any further than we have.”

No Public Plans at the Moment for a New Smash Bros. Game

There are however no public plans at the moment for a new Smash Bros. game, and also based on what Sukurai has stated in his latest video, it really sounds like there is no guarantee that we will ever be seeing one. Fans on the other hand will just have to watch this space.
