The Canada Graduate Scholarships (CGS) Master’s program is a joint initiative by three of Canada’s prominent granting agencies: CIHR, NSERC, and SSHRC.

CGS Masters scholarship benefits

Successfully selected students for the CGS M scholarship will receive financial support of $17,500 for 12 months. This funding will ease the financial burden of pursuing a master’s degree in Canada.

Eligibility Criteria for the CGS Masters Program

To be eligible for the CGS Masters Program 2023-24, Applicants must meet the conditions below:

  • The program is open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and protected persons under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada).
  • A strong academic record is required from all Candidates, and this includes a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Applicants are expected to present a research proposal that demonstrates their potential to conduct high-quality research.
  • The application deadline often falls in December, hence, interested Candidates must ensure to submit their applications before the specified Deadline date.
  • Prospective Candidates must possess Canadian citizenship, permanent residency in Canada, or Protected Person status according to subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada)
  • Applicants must be enrolled in, applied for, or planning to apply for full-time admission to a graduate program at the master’s or doctoral level at a Canadian institution with an allocated CGS M spot.
  • Applicants must adhere to the internal application deadline set by their chosen Canadian institution for the intended program of study
