Do you want to Apply for a Test and Trace Support Payment? The Test and Trace Support Payment scheme application ended on 24 February this year, but If you were required to isolate before this particular date, you can still submit an application for this 42 days after your first day of isolation.
This condition applies to applicants from England only.
Apply for a Test and Trace Support Payment
The £500 Test and Trace Support Payment was created for people on low incomes who have to self-isolate because they have the following:
- tested positive for the COVID-19 virus following a PCR test or an assisted lateral flow device (LFD) test; or
- Who has been notified to be in close contact with someone who has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus and they are not exempt from self-isolation? This guidance also sets out those who are exempted.
You may be eligible for this support payment if you are employed or self-employed, or will not be able to work from home, and will lose some income as a result. The parent or guardian of a child or young person who is self-isolating Is also eligible for the Test and Trace Support Payment.
If you have been asked to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace, legally, you are required to do so. If you have been notified by the NHS COVID-19 application to self-isolate and you applied for the Test and Trace Support Payment, you will also be legally required to self-isolate.
If you have ever tested positive on a self-reported (home) LFD test, you will not be eligible for the Test and Trace Support Payment unless you take a follow-up PCR test, and the result is declared positive
Who Can Apply
You may be eligible for a £500 covid 19 test and trace payment to support you during self-isolation if you live in England and you:
- have been told to stay at home and self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace or the NHS COVID-19 application because you have tested positive for COVID-19
- If you have been told to stay at home and self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace or the NHS COVID-19 app because you have been identified to be in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, and you are not exempt from self-isolation
- If you have responded to some messages from NHS Test and Trace and have provided any legally required details, like details of your close recent contacts
- You may be eligible if you are employed or self-employed
- If you are unable to work from home and will lose income as a result of self-isolation
- If you are currently receiving or are a partner of someone in the same household who is receiving, at least one of the following benefits:
- Universal Credit
- Working Tax Credit
- income-based Employment and Support Allowance
- income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Income Support
- Housing Benefit
- Pension Credit
If you are not benefiting from any of these, you might also be eligible for a £500 discretionary payment if;
- you meet all the other criteria that are listed above
- you’re a low-income earner
- If you will face financial hardship when you self-isolate
Your local council will tell you what counts as low income and financial hardship – and whether you are eligible for the test and trace support payment.
How to Apply for the Test and Trace Support Payment
In England, the Test and Trace Support Payment scheme is supervised by local councils.
If you think you meet the eligibility criteria for either the Test and Trace Support Payment or a discretionary payment, then you can apply through your local council. After that, you can claim it up to 42 days after the first day of your self-isolation period.
For the application process, you will need to provide the following
- An NHS Test and Trace Account Identification, which is sometimes referred to as a CTAS number
- Your bank statement
- Your proof of employment or, if you’re self-employed, evidence of self-assessment returns, trading income, and a proof that your business delivers services that cannot be gotten without social contact
- If you’re applying as a parent or guardian, you will then be required to provide your child’s NHS Test and Trace Account ID.
If the NHS COVID-19 app has told you to isolate yourself because you’ve been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, you will need to follow a few additional steps to request your NHS Test and Trace Account ID.
