Amazon Is Set To Close 8 of Its Go Convenience Stores

Retail giant, amazon is closing eight of its Amazon Go convenience stores permanently. The cashier-less stores as you should know are located in New York City, Seattle, and San Francisco. Two stores based in Seattle have been shut for some time now, amazon says, but six stores however are still in operation, two in New York and the other four in San Francisco which are set to close on April 1.

Amazons Statement in Regard to the Development

“Like any physical retailer, we periodically assess our portfolio of stores and make optimization decisions along the way,” Amazon in a statement said. “We remain committed to the Amazon Go format, operate more than 20 Amazon Go stores across the US, and will continue to learn which locations and features resonate most with customers as we keep evolving our Amazon Go stores.”

What is Amazon Go

Amazon Go stores for those who don’t know let people shop without standing in a checkout line. Customers get to enter the store making use of the Amazon app, get what they want and then exit the store, and the bill on the other hand is paid through a credit card on the app.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy in the previous month said that the company wants to “go big” on another type of physical store, grocery stores. Amazon the last year announced that it would be closing all of its physical bookstores as well as its 4-star stores and pop-up stores.

Amazon Will Continue To Open Up New Amazon Go Stores

The company however said that it will continue to open up new Amazon Go stores such as the one recently opened in Puyallup, Washington.
