Established in 1962, the Thomson Foundation is a London-based not-for-profit organization dedicated to media development. It was the first charitable foundation with a specific objective of training journalists in developing countries. Eligibility Criteria for the Thomson Foundation Young Journalist Award
To be eligible for the Thomson Foundation Young Journalist Award, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Age: Applicants must be 30 years old or younger.
- Nationality: Applicants should be from countries with a Gross National Income (GNI) per capita of less than $20,000.
- Language: You can submit entries in any language, but you must accompany them with an accurate English-language translation.
- All Applicants must be reporting from their home country, as defined by the GNI, or from another country that fits the same criteria.
- Additionally, applicants are required to provide an explanation of any collaborations undertaken with colleagues or external organizations in the stories they submit.
- All Journalists entering for the FPA award must also include a written statement, not exceeding 200 words per story. This includes a summary of the content.
