All interested Nigerian students from tertiary Institutions are encouraged to apply for this competition in alignment with the regulations of the competition which is the provision of a valid student ID card or evidence of enrollment.

About the WIPO National IP Essay Competition

Intellectual property Day is often celebrated annually on the 26th of April, with the aim of recognizing the importance of IP rights in promoting creativity and innovation.

In the spirit of this year’s celebration, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Nigeria, Is offering a National IP Essay Competition for students to showcase their thoughts and ideas.

The theme of the 2023 World Intellectual Property (IP) Day, is (Women and IP: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity), which demonstrates the role of women in creativity and innovation as well as the challenges they encounter.

This competition is a perfect opportunity for students to engage in research and advance their knowledge of the intellectual property.

In addition, participants will get to explore policy ideas along the lines of the 2023 theme with aims at promoting the participation of women in Nigeria’s innovation and creativity fields.

  • Entries for the WIPO Competition should be submitted via the email address below
  • The essay must be written in English with a maximum of 1,500 words (excluding bibliography and references), should be in font 12 Arial (Black), double-spaced, and pages numbered.
  • The Entries should be in Word and .pdf format, without pictures or other graphical illustrations.

  • Nigerian students currently enrolled an undergraduate and postgraduate programs from recognized tertiary institutions in Nigeria,
