Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for the University Of Manchester Dean’s Doctoral Scholarship Award, Candidates must meet the conditions below:

  • Prospective Candidates are expected to have submitted an application by the deadline for a Ph.D. program commencing in September 2024.
  • Candidates must possess or intend to obtain their first class or 2.1 UK honors undergraduate degree (or international equivalent).
  • The applicant has a master’s qualification obtained by merit or distinction (or international equivalent).
  • The ability to demonstrate potential for academic research is required, such as undergraduate projects, placements, internships, contributions to publications or articles, promoting research to a wider audience, prizes for previous work, or setting up collaborations with other groups.
  • Candidates must show involvement in broader activities, including outreach, volunteering, community engagement, engagement in EDIA, and other extra-curricular activities.

Other Eligibility Criteria

The University Of Manchester Dean’s Doctoral Scholarship Award is awarded to Candidates with an offer of study at The University of Manchester. Candidates must also:

  • Fulfill the English language entry requirements as specified by the Department of their choice;
  • Candidates must have a track record of engaging with research. This can be contributions to publications, articles, or the promotion of their research to a broader audience, prizes for research, or project work.

  • Please note that the Dean’s Doctoral Scholarships is awarded on a nomination basis, where the lead supervisor will consider Candidates for nomination and provide support to them through the process.
  • Applicants are advised to contact the supervisory team during the application process, to confirm their awareness of their desire to be considered for funding
  • Applicants must first apply for admission to pursue a PhD program of their choice to be considered for the Dean’s Doctoral award.

Selection Process

  • All shortlisted candidates for the University Of Manchester Dean’s Doctoral Scholarship Award 2024, will be invited to be interviewed by the Faculty DDS Panel.
  • Successfully Selected Candidates will be notified by email.
  • During the recruitment cycle, the Zoom App will be used for Interviews
  • Interview questions, a brief oral presentation, and the DDS nomination form will be used by the Faculty DDS Panel to evaluate interviewees.
  • Applications for 2024-25 will be reviewed in two groups during the academic year, which ends on March 31, 2024:
  • If your supervisor nominates you for this scholarship and you apply before January 31, 2024, you will be interviewed in March 2024, and you will be informed by March 28 if you are selected for the scholarship.
  • You will be interviewed in May 2024 and informed by May 31st, 2024, whether you are selected for the scholarship if you apply for it between January 31 and March 31, 2024, and your supervisor nominates you.
