The UICC Technical Fellowships 2023 is designed to promote the control of cancer in French-speaking (Francophone) countries in Africa.

This Technical fellowship is offered by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), along with its French sub-program Bourses pour l’Afrique Francophone, and supported by international cancer societies, organizations, and foundations.

The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), is accepting applications for the Technical Fellowships and the Bourses pour l’Afrique Francophone sub-programme on cancer prevention and early detection.

The fellowship call is primarily for cancer professionals from low and middle-income countries seeking to gain skills and knowledge on these topics. Applications are from June 15 to August 15, 2023, all interested applicants are encouraged to apply before the deadline to avoid application disapproval.

Objectives of UICC Technical Fellowships

The call for UICC Technical Fellowships serves several key objectives, including:

  • The Technical Fellowships encourage international exchange and development of technical knowledge and skills in all aspects of cancer control.
  • Building the capacity of individuals and their home organizations through the application and dissemination of newly acquired skills upon return.
  • The program aims to support the networks of cancer control professionals, fostering the sharing of knowledge, informal support, and guidance.

Duration of Technical Fellowship and Funding

The duration of the UICC Technical Fellowship varies, and the funding levels are as follows:

  • Two weeks: $2,200 USD
  • Three weeks: $2,800 USD
  • Four weeks: $3,400 USD
  • Five weeks: $4,000 USD
  • Six weeks: $4,600 USD
  • Seven weeks: $5,200 USD
  • Eight weeks: $5,800 USD

Eligibility Criteria for UICC Technical Fellowship 2023

To be eligible for the UICC Technical Fellowship;

  • Candidates must be cancer professionals residing in low and middle-income countries, engaged in cancer prevention or early detection.
  • Eligible professions include public health investigators, implementation and translational researchers, pathologists, epidemiologists, tobacco control activists, and cancer registrars in the early stages of their careers.
  • Applicants should possess at least an MSc or MA.
  • Established clinicians and nurses in oncology practice, holding an MD degree (for doctors) or RN (for nurses), are eligible to apply.
  • Medical and Ph.D. students, however, are not eligible for this fellowship.

  • Ideally, fellowship candidates should identify and contact potential host supervisors on their own.
  • Host institutions need not be UICC member organizations.
  • In cases where candidates are unable to find a host supervisor, UICC can assist by liaising with interested UICC members like HCG Hospitals in India, NCCK in South Korea, and Icon Group.
