The highest number of electors allotted to a state is fifty-five (55) (California) and the least is three (3).

A majority of 270 votes from the electors is needed for a candidate to win the United States presidential elections. In a case where none of the candidates gets up to 270 electoral votes, the House of Representatives and Senators would select the new president and vice president from the top three candidates with the highest electoral votes.

Date for U.S. Election

The general U.S. Election 2020 has been scheduled to be held on the 3^rd of November, 2020. This date also falls on a Tuesday. This is always the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November in the year of the U.S. election. On this day, the citizens of the United States who are eligible to vote would vote in Electors. These electors are like representatives from the different states in the United States. A citizen votes for an elector that supports the same presidential candidate as them.

On the 14^th of December, 2020, the electors would then elect the candidate they want as president by casting their votes. After the winner of the elections has been announced, the new president and vice president will be inaugurated on the 20^th of January, 2021 and can officially resume their offices for the next four-year term.
