The subject area changes each year, with previous awards recognizing accomplishments in the physical sciences, astronomy and cosmology, earth sciences, mathematics, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 respectively.

Benefit

  • The awardees are presented with a monetary prize of $10,000, generously sponsored by Lenovo. Lenovo is a prominent global technology company that specializes in consumer, commercial, and enterprise technology and is recognized as the world’s largest PC Company.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates who are eligible for consideration must be young scientists, not exceeding the age of 45. They should be citizens of a developing country and have been residing and working in a developing country for a minimum of two years before their nomination. It is important to note that self-nominations and nominations from jury members will not be accepted. Additionally, individuals who are already Fellows of TWAS are not eligible for this award.
  • In a given year, the same nominee cannot be nominated for more than one Fellows of TWAS award. However, the secretariat has the authority to bring to the attention of the relevant nominators that the nomination may be appropriate for another award. The final decision to shift the nomination or not will be made by the nominators themselves.

Selection Process

  • The winner is chosen based on their scientific merit. Initially, a preliminary assessment of the nominees is conducted at TWAS. The nomination dossiers of the eligible candidates are then forwarded to jury members for their evaluation. The jury members carefully assess the nominations and based on their evaluation, a final decision is made to determine the winner.

Nomination

Nomination will be considered complete if it includes the following information and materials:

  • Contact details of the nominator.
  • Contact details of the nominee (self-nominations are not accepted), along with general information about their work and residence in the past two years.
