Micron has now announced that it’s latest 9400 NVMe PCle 4.0 SSD is set to deliver what is claimed by the firm as an industry-leading 30.72TB of storage.

The device which is now available according to Micron is its 9400 solid-state drive and it is  “designed to manage the most demanding data center workloads”,  and thus lends itself very well to artificial intelligence, machine learning, and many other high-performance computing applications.

“Thanks to its industry-leading 30TB capacity and stunning performance with over 1 million IOPS in mixed workloads, the Micron 9400 SSD packs larger datasets into each server and accelerates machine learning training, which equips users to squeeze more out of their GPUs,”  Alvaro Toledo, VP for micron noted.

IOPS per Watt Are Reported Also To Have Gotten an Improvement

IOPS per watt are reported also to have gotten an improvement of a significant 77%, while the 30TB SSD on the other hand doubles the capacity of the previous generation NVMe of Microns SSDs effectively and efficiently. This then leads to a standard, two-rack-unit, 24-drive server that is equipped completely with microns 9400 SSD thus providing a total storage space f 737TB.

This very development naturally will help to see the potential for a significant cut down in footprint needed in data centers in contrast to other like-for-like setups thus helping to reduce the environmental impact of storing out data. Micron however also promises that as a result firms can cut down their maintenance costs.

Micron 9400 NVMe SSD Available Sizes

The micron 9400 NVMe SSD is available at this moment in 6.4TB, 7.68TB, 12.8TB, 15.36TB, 25.6TB, and 30.72TB sizes. And it is also prepared for U.3 sockets and U.2 backward compatibility. And despite the fact of its apparent availability, the firm (Micron) has not shared many details in regard to the price of its new releases.
