The competition, scheduled to be held in Lagos, Nigeria, welcomes applications from eligible Nigerian Entrepreneurs. The Competition aims to provide the most promising Small-Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria with invaluable opportunities for partnership and investment from the United States.

Overview of StarNews Business Competition

The nexus between innovation and empowerment fuels the essence of the StarNews Business Competition. Launched in 2017, StarNews Mobile is designed for African content creators, providing a platform to monetize their endeavors and reach a global audience. With over 4 million subscribers and a robust community spanning six African countries, StarNews Mobile has emerged as a catalyst for economic growth and creativity.

The competition also collaborates with MTN and the United Nations Agency for International Development (USAID), amplifying its impact by fostering strategic alliances with industry leaders committed to fostering economic prosperity.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered eligible, entrepreneurs must meet the following criteria:

  • Nigerian Ownership: Businesses must be at least 50% Nigerian-owned and operated, aligning with the ethos of promoting indigenous enterprise.
  • Registration: Entities should be duly registered in Nigeria with a valid Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration.
  • African Operations: Business activities should primarily occur within the African continent, contributing to the region’s economic vibrancy.
  • Digital Presence: A robust online presence is essential, with a minimum of 1,000 followers across various social media platforms, reflecting engagement and influence.
  • Operational Experience: Businesses must demonstrate a track record of at least two years in formal operations, accompanied by consecutive turnover.
