Solar installations are expected to set a record this year. The state of Florida continues to topple other states and dominate in state rankings, and it is then closely followed by the state of California.
Solar Installations to Set a Record
The outlook for solar energy at the moment looks, well, very much sunny. The US solar industry as you should know expects to add a record 32 gigawatts of new capacity in the year 2023, according to a report that was released on Thursday. That in question for those that don’t know would mark a 52% increase from the year 2022.
The report in question, which was released by the Solar Energy Industries Association and global research and consultancy group Wood Mackenzie, notes that the solar market and industry have suffered in recent years from supply-chain challenges which was “brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and exacerbated by restrictive trade policy.”
Challenges Facing the Solar Industry
These very challenges in question are starting to abate, the report stated, and favorable policies in the Inflation Reduction Act are now taking hold, hence the increased expectations in the industry. The total operating solar capacity for those that don’t know is expected to grow from 153GW today to 375GW by 2028.
What the CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association Thinks Of This Development
“The United States is now a dominant player in the global clean energy economy, and states like Florida, Texas, Ohio and Georgia are at the forefront of this job growth and economic prosperity,” Abigail Ross Hopper, president, and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association stated. “The solar and storage industry is delivering abundant clean energy that is generating tens of billions of dollars of private investment, and this is just the tip of the iceberg.”
It Is No Surprise to See Florida Dominate the 2023 State Solar Rankings
It is quite unsurprising that the Sunshine State, Florida, continues to dominate the 2023 state solar rankings, installing 2.5GW of new capacity alone in the first half of the year 2023. And according to the report, this is 52% more than the next highest state in the rankings, California, and it already marks more solar capacity than Florida has ever installed in one recorded single year.
