Applications are now open for the 7th edition of the NCDMB Annual National Undergraduate Essay Competition. This competition is being sponsored by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, commonly called NCDMB.
The competition is designed to promote the initiative of NC (Nigerian Content), with the aim of building local capacity to participate effectively in Nigeria’s Oil and Gas industry.
Benefits of the NCDMB Essay Competition
The NCDMB Essay Competition offers attractive prizes to encourage and reward talented undergraduate students. The following prizes will be awarded:
- First Place: N1,000,000
- Second Place: N700,000
- Third Place: N500,000
- All Top 10 National Finalists: Each will receive a laptop
- In addition to the monetary prizes, the winning essay will be published in the NCDMB’s in-house magazine, Local Content Digest, providing an opportunity for young scholars to showcase their work to a broader audience.
Commonly referred to as NCDMB, the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, was founded by the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act in the year 2010. NCDMB monitors and coordinates the provisions of the NOGICD Act, which was signed into law in April 2010.
Eligibility Criteria for NCDMB Essay Competition 2023
To be eligible for the 7th edition of the NCDMB Essay Competition, participants must meet the following requirements:
- Academic Level: The contest is open only to 100-200 level students in public and private Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria – Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education.
- Application for participating in the competition opens on the 24th of July 2023. Completed manuscripts attached with other documents must be submitted to ncdmbessay.ng by August 28 2023.
- Registration: Entrants must register on the website at ncdmbessay.ng before submitting their manuscripts.
- Original Work: All essays must be original works specifically written for the competition.
- Participants are required to submit either a letter of admission or a signed letter of attestation from their Head of Department (HOD) to verify their enrollment in a tertiary institution.
Selection Criteria for NCDMB Essay Competition
Essays submitted for the competition will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Clarity of Expression: The essay should be well-structured and easily understandable.
- Spelling and Grammar: Proper language usage and minimal errors are crucial.
- The originality of Thought: Essays should present unique perspectives and fresh ideas.
- Depth of Analysis: A comprehensive analysis of the subject matter will be rewarded.
- Relevance to Industry: Essays should address relevant issues in the Oil and Gas industry.
- Conformity to Contest Rules: Adherence to the guidelines and rules of the competition.
- To ensure the originality of the submissions, all essays will undergo plagiarism checks through software applications.
