NetherRealm Studios, the gaming firm behind Mortal Kombat 1 has now confirmed that it will not be featuring crossplay at its launch.

In a recent Twitter post, the developer of the game shared the news regarding what it is reportedly dubbing “Kross-Play”, thus revealing that it will now arrive “post-launch”, and in the process clear up some confusion regarding when players can expect the feature to be added.

“Launch is just around the corner and we can’t wait for everyone to sink their teeth into MK1,” NetherRealm stated. “Regarding Kross-Play, it will not be available at launch, but know we are hard at work at implementing the feature into the game and it will be koming post-launch.”

Although there has now been confirmation that the feature in question is coming, it is still unclear as to which platforms it will be targeting. As PC Gamer reports, a tweet from Wario64 back in May shows that an FAQ on the official website of the game that stated plans to add crossplay as well as cross-progression support “post-launch,” but it was however later taken down from the page.

Mortal Kombat 1 Crossplay Tag Added To Steam

A crossplay tag was reportedly added to the Steam page later on, which as you should know made players think that crossplay that is between PC and consoles would be a possibility, something that Mortal Kombat 11 didn’t get to feature. However, several mentions of it were removed from the page quietly in the early parts of this month, which reportedly caused some players to question if the game in question would be getting the feature at all.

It is still very much possible that NetherRealm shared the feature too early and it wasn’t ready to be implemented alongside the official launch of the game, so it was reportedly removed, but that is however unclear at this time.

Mortal Kombat 1 Expert Review

In a recent preview of the game, TechRadar’s Sarah Thwaites stated that: “Mortal Kombat 1 feels like an exciting fresh start for the series, geared at finessing the fighting experience for veteran players while also making the on-ramp easier for newbies with modes like Invasion. It’s not an outright revolution, but NetherRealm Studios’ latest effort is full of careful iterations that complement Mortal Kombat 1’s striking visuals and intense but deeply rewarding combat.”
